Murata to Acquire Peregrine Semiconductor for US$471 Million
August 25, 2014

Japan's Murata Manufacturing Co. announced that it will spend around US$471 million to acquire the US-based radio frequency (RF) module maker Peregrine Semiconductor, reported the Wall Street Journal on August 22. The deal will give Murata advanced RF front-end capabilities and Silicon on Insulator (SOI) process technology—both key areas for the growing integration of mobile technologies. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of 2014 or early 2015, after which Peregrine Semiconductor will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Murata. The takeover is still subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
